Worship Album of the Year

I know we are only in April but I can't wait until the end of the year to declare this the worship album of the year! The album extremely well produced, the songs well written with the music and vocals simply beautiful! You truly get closer to God by simply listening to this anointed worship album. Singing along is inevitable even though occasionally a word pops up that you may no be familiar with. My children and I find this album extra special as we watched Watoto live at our church, heart their amazing stories and danced along to the song Heirs which we cannot listen to without dancing to now! Get you digital copy on Amazon  or iTunes  and the only place I could find the CD was to buy directly from the team on tour.  Find there tour dates here . Well done Watoto for being an inspiration to so many of us world wide. [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0_J2uDyCKk]   Find out more about Watoto at  www.watoto.com

To the 'Little' Guys and Girls doing Crappy Jobs!

Great speech by Ashton Kutcher - I am so pleased he mentioned all the crappy, seemingly insignificant jobs that he has had and how each one was essential to getting him ahead.  Too many people want the fame and success but want to skip the crappy little jobs that get you there!   I wonder how many people out there are busy doing crappy jobs not realising that they are one step ahead of those just sitting and wishing for fame and success - here's to the 'little' guy who cleans the tables at MacDonald's and here's to the toilet cleaners at the gym and here's too all of you that are doing what is perceived as crappy jobs - may you succeed in whatever is in your heart to do.   I respect you and thank you for all that you do.  You are the true heroes.  To those that are sitting and wishing or scheming how to get a bank loan to start big, why not go out and find yourself a crappy job, something small, just to get the ball rolling, I am sure it will get you one step i

Book Reviews

Esther or Delilah? by Angela De Souza Esther or Delilah? is an honest look at how women use their beauty to seduce men! Whether you like it or not you are using your beauty for something, but are you using it to empower a man or are you using it in a way that leaves him powerless? Both Esther and Delilah were beautiful women in the Bible. Both women seduced the man in their life. One woman used her beauty to save her people; the other woman used her beauty to destroy her people. Today’s women are no different from Esther and Delilah. Which woman are you? The Tale of a Church Planter Interview

Here it is!  My MissioNexus interview  Listen to the interview here Read their thoughts on my book below More info on the book here Buy it on Amazon.co.uk | Amazon.com  The Tale of a Church Planter The ups, downs, frustrations, joys and everything in-between on the roller coaster ride of church planting. Summary The author is a married woman church planter. She and her husband recently started and developed a church together in England. Therefore, the value of this book is that it is written from a woman's point of view. Like many wives of church planters, she did not have the title of pastor, yet she functioned as one as she devoted just as much time and energy to the church start and development as her husband. Angela approaches the subject candidly, with humour and depth of understanding of what it takes to plant a church. She faces the good times joyfully and the difficult times (and there are many!) with determination and wisdom, giving i

Ascent from Darkness

A life of difficulty and disappointment set 33-year old Michael Leehan up for the worst decision of his life—to make a deal with the Devil to follow and serve him. Practicing the dark arts that include ritualistic cuttings and blood sacrifices, while fine tuning his manipulation and control skills, Michael launched into a twenty year downward spiral that included job loss and detachment from loved ones, and even jail time.  But God had another plan that included a group of Christian men to love him and pray for him—even when it became evident his assignment from Satan was to kill their pastor, Craig Groeschel. At first I was sceptical and didn't buy into the whole Satanist thing as it seemed too stereotypical with the usual burning of candles at the tips of a pentagram, killing cats and reading the book of shadows.  Perhaps many of us including myself are desensitised by TV programs such as Charmed, which I watched a lot of in my youth.  BUT, it wasn't long be

Momaholic

Momaholic is not quite what I expected.  Perhaps it was the cover that lead me to believe it was a comedy.  It is anything but a comedy.  This is a story showing the speed with which a “normal” family can fall apart. No one dies. No one gets kidnapped. They just have to deal with each of their own issues….and then one unwanted and unplanned pregnancy. This was a church-going family whose kids were taught abstinence until marriage. With the family running around as the tornado sirens roared warnings to take cover, mother, Miss Drama, becomes the biggest mess of all and ends up finding a whole new freedom for her soul.      Many times I found myself nodding in agreement with Dena and then crying from understanding her pain.  Life can throw some difficult things at us and Dena surely had her fair share.  This book is a beautiful story of a courageous woman who tries to find and keep the the balance in her life.     Dena's writing style is very conversational which makes this boo

A Place Called Blessing

This morning I received a book to review for Thomas Nelson.  My intention was to start reading a chapter of it today but the story was so gripping that I couldn't put it down until I had read the very last word.  I can honestly say that this is the best book I have ever read.  I cried my eyes out in some place and had a good chuckle at times too.  Josh's story made me think of people in my world that could have a similar story to his.  His story made me think that perhaps we write people off too soon or judge them too quickly.  Who knows the heart and pain of another person?  Who are we to judge?  As you approach the end of the book, hold on to your seat and make sure you have a box of tissues handy. *  This book was provided to me for free by Thomas Nelson for my honest review.

Nearing Home

Never have I given growing old so much thought as I have in the past two weeks. I guess I thought I would live forever with the perfect health that I currently enjoy. Growing old was something I feared in many ways but paid very little attention to. It just seemed so far ahead that it almost seemed silly to start thinking about it now! Well, I was wrong! Billy Graham's book, Nearing Home, is an honest look at his life and his struggle with the ageing process. Now in his 90s, he tells the truth and holds nothing back. Growing old is not easy and Billy shares many of his pains, sorrows and struggles. He also delves into practical things such as retirement planning, financial matters and ministry issues. I can't begin to tell you how highly I recommend this book to both the young and old.  It so happened that when I started reading this book I also started meeting with a wonderful lady called Dee from Defined Finance. I don't believe in co-incidence at all. I do

The Accidental Bride

I was given this book by Thomas Nelson to review and sadly wasn't very impressed.  The story is about a cowgirl whose wedding reenactment turns real and finds out that she’s an accidental bride. The book was a quick read and I although the ending was predictable I did read it until the end to see what actually happened.  At times the story was enoyable and sweet which kept you reading and hoping that things would work out.    On the whole the plot was predictable and the main characters seemed a bit plain.  It was as if time passed by but they didn't grow or change at all. I remained annoyed with the leading lady and you were not offered an opportunity to like her.  The leading man however was very likeable but also annoying because I expected him to rise up and fight for her, not wimp out all the time.  Even right up to the final chapter their relationship seemed weak - not something that could inspire me.     I felt uncomfortable with the romantic scenes as they seemed a bit

You are... valuable

Value is now measured by two criteria, appearance and performance.     Pretty tough system, isn't it? Where does that leave the retarded? Or the ugly or uneducated? Where does that place the aged or the handicapped? What hope does that offer the unborn child? Not much. Not much at all. We become nameless numbers on mislaid lists.     Now please understand, this is man's system. It's not God's. His plan is much brighter. God, with eyes twinkling, steps up to the philosopher's blackboard, erases the never-ending, ever-repeating circle of history and replaces it with a line; a hopefilled, promising, slender line. And, looking over his shoulder to see if the class is watching, he draws an arrow at the end.     In God's book man is heading somewhere. He has an amazing destiny. We are being prepared to walk down the church aisle and become the bride of Jesus. We are going to live with him. Share the throne with him. Reign with him. We count. We are valuable. And what&

2011 Highlights

After having a very long season of rest I am more than ready to get stuck into 2012.  2011 was wonderful, stressful and tiring.  Lessons were learnt, personal character was challenged and I found myself stretched in many ways.  King's Daughters has grown from a blog into a Girl's Night and then into a conference! Looking ahead I can see that there is much more to come and I am more prepared for and excited by the challenges than ever before.  I would love you and/or your church to join us on our King's Daughters journey in 2012, we will be getting stuck into Being a Wife as well as much more. Why not start a Girl's Night in your area too? Please contact me for more info about the study notes.  Here are some highlights from 2011: Jan - The 'Being a Woman' journey began and resulted in a Being a Woman book Feb - We started our Girl's Night which has resulted in some beautiful friendships Mar - My second book, Secure on the Rock , was released

Hermie Is Back

Hermie is a favourite in our family and my children have learnt so much about God through Max Lucado's writing.  As always, "Thank you, God, for blessing me" helps little children grow in an attitude of gratitude and "Thank you, God for loving me" help little ones know how much God loves them.   It is beautifully written and beautifully illustrated and a perfect little Christmas gift .  Thank you to Booksneeze for providing me with this lovely little book to review.

Stumbling Into Grace

To be perfectly honest, I chose this book because of it's cover!  It was just too cute to pass by, and so I requested a copy from Booksneeze to review.   I don't want to be too harsh to the author as I know how stabbing a bad review can be, but I was disappointed.  Perhaps I expected too much based on the cover, but I found the content a bit weak.  The stories seemed rushed and the scriptures didn't tie in well with the stories.  What I did like about the book was the presentation, the layout and the general feel of the book.  Stumbling Into Grace could work well for a light read or as a daily devotional but I was hoping for something more meaty, more life changing.  A new Christian could benefit from this book as it's an easy read and doesn't contain anything too hard to understand, and so if I were to recommend it to anyone, I would definitely recommend it to someone new to our faith.

Marriage Tip #14 - Be a Wise Neck

My Big Fat Greek Wedding is a fantastic movie and this scene has so much truth in it. In recent years, I've noticed how much I truly am the neck in my marriage, both by supporting my husband and holding him high as well as by influencing his direction and turning his attention to certain things. Being the neck is a very important role and can easily be abused.  A wife that understands and values her role as the neck will be an awesome wife indeed.   At times I fear the responsibility of being the neck.  What if I turn the 'head' in the wrong direction or cause him to see things that I should not have exposed him to?  It is this fear that has caused me to think carefully before using my 'neck power' to influence my husband.  It is this fear that has lead me to pray and carefully consider what I say to my husband.   Wives, you are the neck, embrace it and be careful with what a neck can do.

Are You A Christian? ...Really!?

I couldn't have said it any better than Eric so I am going to point you to his blog for a review of this movie.  It has left us radically challenged, read what Eric has so say about it here .  Be warned though, it does have some very gruesome scenes.

I Don't Know How She Does It

Sarah Jessica Parker stars in a sparkling comedy about a mum juggling marriage, children and a high-powered job.  It's a really lovely movie that leaves you feeling warm and squishy inside rather than grossed out because you've seen things you really didn't want to see - which is the response I have had to most movies I have seen lately. I highly recommend this movie if you want to laugh and cry and leave the cinema feeling good about your life - whether you are a working mum or not!  You can watch the trailer here . I have also found a fantastic website that you can use to check out a movie before watching it - it really helps me not waste time watching rubbish movies.  See for yourself at www.movieguide.org
